BigCommerce used to have no transaction fees. Since June 2026, that's no longer true.

For years, BigCommerce's main argument against Shopify was "zero transaction fees, regardless of gateway." Starting June 1, 2026, BigCommerce introduced an "Open Payment Provider Fee" — fees now apply if you use a gateway outside BigCommerce's approved list. If your dashboard doesn't yet reflect this change in your net calculation, you may be understating your real fees.

What BigCommerce doesn't show you since the June 2026 change

• Approved gateway: no platform transaction fee, only the processor's own fees (typically 2.9% + $0.30).

• Non-approved gateway: new transaction fees added since June 1, 2026 (the exact rate depends on your plan — check your BigCommerce account, since GMV thresholds also tightened in the same update).

• Annual GMV thresholds that trigger a plan-tier change were lowered in the same update.
