SumUp pays you less than your customers paid. Does your dashboard show the difference?
Every SumUp payment has two numbers: what the customer paid and what lands in your account. The gap is SumUp’s fee, and it changes with where you operate and how the payment was taken. A dashboard that shows only the gross hides it. Simeon puts SumUp next to your other providers so you can see what you actually keep.
What SumUp charges
SumUp’s rates depend on your country and on how the payment is taken. Here is what its pricing pages list for the two markets most of our users sell in.
United States
In-person card payments: 2.6% + 10¢ per transaction.
Online or manual entry: 3.5% + 15¢ per transaction.
The free plan costs $0 a month; the card reader is bought upfront. POS Plus is $49 a month.
United Kingdom
Standard: 1.69% per transaction, no monthly fee.
Payments Plus: 0.99% per transaction for £19 a month.
Custom rates for businesses processing £10,000 or more a month.
Rates in other countries differ. Check sumup.com for yours.
SumUp is not a merchant of record
SumUp is a payment provider. It takes the card payment and pays you out. It does not collect or remit sales tax or VAT for you, the way Polar, Paddle or Lemon Squeezy do as merchants of record. The tax on a SumUp sale stays your job, so a clean view of your gross and net matters when you file.
What a $50 sale really leaves you
United States, $50 sale
In person: $50 × 2.6% + $0.10 = $1.40 in fees. You keep $48.60.
Online: $50 × 3.5% + $0.15 = $1.90 in fees. You keep $48.10.
The same $50 costs you 50 cents more when the card is keyed in or paid online.
United Kingdom, £50 sale
Standard: £50 × 1.69% = about £0.85 in fees. You keep about £49.15.
Payments Plus: £50 × 0.99% = about £0.50 in fees. You keep about £49.50.
Payments Plus saves 0.70% on every sale and costs £19 a month. It pays for itself at roughly £2,700 of sales a month. Below that, Standard is cheaper. Seeing your monthly volume next to your fees tells you which side of that line you are on.
