Gumroad's headline rate is 10%. It's never actually 10%.

Gumroad's advertised rate (10% + $0.50 per direct sale) doesn't include card processing (~2.9% + $0.30 on top), pushing the real effective rate to 13–21% depending on product price. And if the sale comes through Discover, Gumroad's built-in marketplace, it's a flat 30%.

What Gumroad doesn't make clear

  • Direct sale: 10% + $0.50, plus card processing separately (~2.9% + $0.30) → real rate ~13–15% on an average-priced product, much higher on cheap products (the flat $0.50 hits proportionally harder).

  • Discover sale: flat 30%, processing included.

  • Refunds: Gumroad doesn't refund its own commission when you refund a customer — you lose the fee even if the sale is cancelled.

  • Gumroad has been a full Merchant of Record since January 2025, so VAT/GST handling worldwide is baked into the rate, not optional.

Worked example

$40 product sold directly: $40 × 10% + $0.50 = $4.50 + ~$1.46 card processing ≈ $5.96 in fees → net ~$34.04 (effective rate ~15%). Same product sold via Discover: $40 × 30% = $12 in fees → net $28.

How it works

  1. Full OAuth connection (Gumroad removed personal access tokens — OAuth is now mandatory).

  2. Sales pull with direct vs. Discover breakdown.

  3. Real net displayed alongside your other providers, with an AI alert if your Discover share is pushing your average fee rate up.
